In the Apostles’ Creed, the Holy Spirit gets one short phrase.  Jesus on the other hand tells us “…it is to your advantage that I go away for if I did not go, the Helper will not come to you…”  (John 16:7) If the Holy Spirit is a greater advantage to the believer than the bodily ministry of Jesus, shouldn’t we pay attention?  Find out more as tomorrow and next Sunday we will consider- The Holy Spirit and the Church and The Holy Spirit and the Believer.

It is our custom at BHCC to do a special series for the season of Lent.  Lent is the forty day season in which we identify with Jesus’s fast in the wilderness that ended Him being tempted by Satan.  In that wilderness fast Jesus was demonstrating His labors were for the Kingdom of God and were in conflict with the kingdoms of this world.  He was declaring His total allegiance, as God’s Unique Son, to the mission and purpose of His Heavenly Father.

This is why we are continuing our study though 1Peter during this Lenten season.  Peter’s constant call to us is to let go of those things that are passing away, and to cling to the things that are eternal.  He speaks of our life as a “wilderness pilgrimage”.  He refers to us as “strangers and aliens.”  He helps us examine how to live here on our way to Heaven.  I hope you will spend this season with Peter and with us as we journey together through this wilderness with increasing trust in God’s faithfulness.

Well it is feeling like back to school. Many of us have felt the rise in activity with the new school year. Others of us have felt it largely in the amount of traffic on the roads. Many of us find those margins of our day previously set apart for prayer and reflection smaller, if not entirely filled. I was reminded yesterday of a wonderful truth. It is found in John’s Gospel where the Risen Christ greets His disciples with these words, “Peace be with you.”

What simple but wonderful words for overcome and anxious people. We have Christ’s Peace, because Christ is with us. He is with us because He is Risen. And because He is risen, everything is different. My prayer for you is that you would experience Christ’s Peace. His peace is with you- in the traffic jam, in the meeting, in the hospital, in the car rider’s line, at the bus stop, in the waiting room. We might be so overcome that we have forgotten about His peace, but that does not mean it is not present, even as Him Himself is present. “Peace be with you!”
